Cyrano de Bergerac

Legendary tenor Plácido Domingo makes his long-awaited return to San Francisco Opera portraying one of the noblest characters ever to grace the stage. For more than a century, audiences have been moved by the story of a swordsman-poet with an enormous heart and an even larger nose. This is a rare opportunity to see this beautifully bittersweet saga set to Franco Alfano's music of "soaring lyricism" (Washington Post).

Domingo, who "projects Cyrano’s cockiness and gravitas through his fervent singing and charismatic presence" (The New York Times), heads an international cast led by acclaimed French conductor Patrick Fournillier. Director Petrika Ionesco's production brilliantly evokes 17th-century France, a thrilling mix of "swordplay and cannon shots at the drop of a broad-brimmed hat" (Playbill).
